AI discovers new enzyme system similar to CRISPR
Anthropic's AI model, Claude, has autonomously found a novel enzyme system in DNA that shares characteristics with CRISPR, a tool used for gene editing. Scientists gave Claude a prompt to search a large DNA database, and after 21 hours, the AI identified a repeating pattern next to a gene. This discovery, called ART, is found in bacteriophages and could lead to new biotechnological tools.
