Parasite tummy bug cases hit decade high as UKHSA warns holidaymakers

Cases of giardiasis, a parasitic stomach bug causing diarrhoea and bloating, rose to 6,069 last year, a 40% increase since 2016. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says the rise could be due to more travel since Covid or better testing. They've warned parents and holidaymakers to take extra care, especially around untreated water, and to see a GP for persistent illness.
