A-level top grades gap between London and north-east hits record 9.6 points

Despite a record number of top A-level results this year, regional gaps in England have also reached record levels. London saw nearly a third of its candidates achieve A*s and As, while the north-east had just 23.1% get those grades. Experts hope new devolution plans and varied funding based on disadvantage can help close these divides.
