Authors: Bookshops need pub-like tax cuts to sell 1,141 more books

Writers including Philip Pullman contacted the Prime Minister after he left bookshops out of a recent financial support package for music venues. The Booksellers Association, a trade group leading the push, warns that independent stores face tax increases of about £4,500 by 2030. To cover these rising business rates, campaigners say shop owners would have to sell an extra 1,141 books every year.
