NHS failing child sexual abuse victims in adulthood, say psychiatrists
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has apologized publicly for its approach to mental health care for individuals who were sexually abused as children and seek help later in life for mental health issues in the UK. Senior doctors informed the BBC that mental health professionals have tended to concentrate too much on symptoms rather than addressing past traumatic experiences. As a result, the college is now advocating for mandatory training for all mental health staff and a comprehensive overhaul of services.
