Organic eggs cause double the carbon emissions of caged eggs
Research suggests organic free-range egg production creates twice as much greenhouse gas as eggs from caged chickens. Organic systems need more birds for the same number of eggs, as caged hens are more efficient. The research, appearing in Royal Society Open Science, utilised figures from 2009-2010 and omitted other environmental elements such as pesticides.
