AI software AlphaFold helped modify gene-editing proteins reducing off-target edits
Researchers used AlphaFold AI-based software to identify and modify parts of gene-editing proteins that cause unintended edits. The new method, called "ContactSeek," helped pinpoint specific amino acids in the Cas9 protein that change when binding to incorrect DNA sequences. Swapping these amino acids reduced off-target editing from 28% to 5% while keeping desired editing activity.
