Wildfires near Bordeaux force 220,000 evacuations as flames spread
Raging wildfires in southwest France have forced the evacuation of 55,000 people overnight Sunday, bringing the total to 220,000 in the Gironde region alone. The fires, which have burned an estimated 42,000 hectares, are now about 15 kilometers from Bordeaux. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated on Sunday that the situation remains "very unfavorable" as gusting winds continue to spread the blaze.
