Scotland to offer gene testing for island cancer risks from next year
Scots with a grandparent from Westray, Orkney, or Whalsay, Shetland, will soon get screening for genes linked to breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. The initiative, spearheaded by NHS Grampian and the University of Aberdeen, is scheduled to commence in Orkney next year, with a nationwide rollout across Scotland anticipated by 2028. Eight NHS charities have collectively funded the £365,000 programme to help detect cancers early.
