England and Wales see driest July on record
England recorded just 6.5mm of rain in July, 10% of average, the Met Office confirmed, the driest July since records began in 1836. Wales saw its driest July on record too, with 9.3mm, while parts of southern England had just 1.9mm, the lowest ever measured there. Met Office scientist Amy Doherty called it a remarkable month combining record dryness, warmth and sunshine across the UK.
