EU chief urges tighter borders after Ceuta deaths
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen called for tighter border checks and physical barriers after Ceuta migrant crossings killed at least 67 people. In a letter to Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, she proposed more monitoring, barriers and Morocco support to prevent repeat crossings. Sanchez accused fellow EU leaders of a selfish response, while 22 governments requested emergency talks on the crisis.
