What makes four wild-born Marten kits so rare?

Four kits beat the usual litter of 2 to 3, filmed by an Exmoor trail camera on a pine marten mother. It follows Dartmoor's first confirmed litter in 2025, after 15 martens were released there in 2024 and 19 more on Exmoor in 2025. Pine martens died out in South West England a century ago and breed once yearly, Devon Wildlife Trust said.
