HSBC makes £7.5bn profit in three months and restarts its share buybacks
Higher market interest rates and a strong performance in wealth management helped drive the 60% jump in earnings. Boss Georges Elhedery will spend up to $1bn buying back stock and has increased his cost-cutting goal to $2bn. Staff numbers have also continued to fall, dropping by more than 2,500 people since the end of 2025.
