US promises Colombia $1 billion security aid for drug fight
The US State Department announced it plans to give Colombia's new right-wing president, Abelardo De La Espriella, $1 billion in security assistance. De La Espriella, 48, was sworn in on Friday and used his inaugural speech to promise a strong fight against drug trafficking. He also stated that Colombia was set to become a participant in the Shield of the Americas program.
