The ongoing Iran war and high oil prices mean the UK government needs to find an extra £24 billion by 2030 to maintain public services and welfare payments. New Prime Minister Andy Burnham will confront a "challenging inheritance", with inflation predicted to hit a high of 3.8% in February 2027, according to the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR).
