Mountaineer Nirmal Purja dies in Pakistan avalanche, expedition company confirms
Renowned Nepali-British mountaineer Nirmal "Nims" Purja has died after an avalanche struck an expedition on Broad Peak in Pakistan, according to his company, Elite Exped. The 43-year-old was best known for climbing the world's 14 highest peaks in a record 189 days in 2019. Several other members of the expedition are also believed to have died, though official confirmation from Pakistani authorities is awaited.
