New plant-based dressing releases antibiotics to fight wound infections
Researchers have developed a two-sided dressing made from plant-based plastic-like materials that targets bacteria directly. It works by releasing antibiotics into a wound within four hours and blocks the formation of biofilm, a protective layer bacteria can form. Lab tests showed the dressing significantly reduced bacterial growth, but more testing is needed before it can be used clinically.
